I feel so bad for my site - I’ve come to the conclusion that it has multiple personality disorder. Everyday I feel like I don’t recognize it anymore - like I just doesn’t know who it is anymore. This of course has nothing to do with my inability to come up with a solid site design that I don’t trash the next morning.
I’ve been plagued with designer’s block. I just can’t seem to come up with a design that I like. I finish one late at night just to wake up and wonder what the hell I was thinking when I look at it.
I assume I’m having this issue because it is my personal site. I won’t settle for less than the best I can do in this case. I thirst for something that can show off what I am capable of while still reflecting me.
I’ve run into a dilemma while coming up with a new design. I feel like I should try to move away from blue for a base color. I know I use this in most of my site designs. I’m finding this move to be a challenge. I don’ know if its because I’ve become dependant on it, or if its because blue just works. So does the grey that tends to accompany blue in my designs. I’m not one for bright flashy sites. I like a design that is simple and makes it easy to do what you came to do, and blue seems to fit that requirement the best.
I guess that relates back to the site reflecting me; the design is there but it doesn’t stand out and scream at you. Useful but not in the way; not detracting from the task at hand. Or at least that’s what I want to be.
I think the current design may stick, or at least some design derived from it. I know it still needs some work before its solid, but I like it.
The next step it to turn the site into a XML / XSLT Web application. No explanation needed for the geeks out there. For the non geeks : this lets me further remove the data from the design. With a switch of a file, I would be able to change the way a site is structured not just the way it looks. The point? It will allow me to make multiple versions of the site much quicker, and make new layouts with greater ease.
The only problem is I don’t know if I have time for this right now.

I think the blue works best on your personal site because it's a color that suits you and that's likely why you gravitate towards using it. the green is interesting - you should stick w/ earth tones.

looks green on mine! maybe you need to buy everyone who looks at your site one of those fancy cinema displays so they can see the "right" colors :P
