Maura’s Birthday

I still suck at updating, we know this. Moving on...

Two weekends ago (Aug 6th) was Maura’s birthday party/surprise LAN party. Our plans to keep it a secret actually worked because she was quite surprised when she walked into her basesment and found it filled with computers, and people yelling surprise at her. Isaac, Mike, and I were the only one to get her a gift; they shipped in a little money so we could give her my old 30gig iPod (wanted to make sure it got a good home since I got that 40gig 4th gen). She liked it a lot. We also got the parts so I could install an iPod interface into her car similar to mine. The party lasted through the night despite two people not making it and brining the head-count down to eight. While there Isaac had a computer hardware issue as with every LAN party he goes to. He had to drive all the way out to Circuit City to get a new power supply because the fan in his old one died. Apparently this was the source of his computer troubles for the past few weeks.

First paycheck came last week with the raise in effect, it was good.

I finished reading Pastwatch by Orson Scott Card. I’m going to have to get more of his books - I forgot how much I enjoy his works.

The past week I’ve been working on writing a PHP application library for my blog system, similar to PEAR. Not much on the surface of the site is going to change but most of the code has been replaced with cleaner refactored code. It still has a long way to go before I’ll consider it finished but its getting there. Its well worth it though - lots of things that took 30 lines of code now take 10. Woo massive code refactoring!

I spent some time a few nights ago getting my desk set back up. Since I moved in I’ve been working off one of those fold up end table type things - aka really small workspace. We figured out a way to get the desk set up without taking up the entire living room. Its nice to have room to have a book open and type at the same time.

School starts up in two weeks. I don’t like this. Although my schedule was well-planned, I still don’t like the idea of having to drive up to college three times a week (one of those days is for one night class). I can’t wait till this hell is over with and I can get a real job and a real life - only two more semesters, weeee.
