New Version 5.0, Now With Better Spam Controls!

The first day of summber I sat down and told myself that I would rewrite the site in PHP, all from scratch. Why you ask? Well, some of the code has been the same for over two years now, so its a bit, umm, outdated. That and PHP is a much better language that lets me do a lot more with very little effort. All summer I didn’t touch the site, because as we all know I had 20 million other sites to do for everyone BUT me. I came up with a lot of things I wanted to add and change, but kept telling myself I wouldn’t touch the old code, just implement it when I made the new site. I got to college, and I’ve been swamped. But, enough was enough damn it, it was time for me to site down and rewrite this!

And so version 5.0 of Forgotten Expanse is born. Unlike the updates in the past, this was more of a functional update than a visual update (although I did touch a few things up with the old theme). The main things you’ll notice is an overhauled blog/comment system, and the Pictures-R-Us section.

For the non-tech people out there, we can just say that nothing really changed beyond you can make comments to my blogs now, I fixed a few spelling mistakes, and you can look at pictures I took. To the tech people; I moved from ASP to PHP, switched over to a PostgreSQL database (yay no more need for Windows Server), rewrote the XHTML 1.0 transitional to be XHTML 1.1 complient, added a printer stylesheet (go ahead, print any page, I dare you...it now only prints the content, no menus, headers, etc), made the site more accessable for those with text-only browsers, Other features include a revised portfolio section, better archive browsing for blogs, and even went so far as to update some of the content, in fact a lot of it! I also brought back the visual styles section, List ’o Themes. I have 10 themes up there to start. Go ahead, look try em out, I like them a lot.

So go look around, every section has something updated or new in it! Look at the beauty of the printer stylesheet by printing out my resume and giving it to important people ;-). Enjoy!
