NASA has come up with a way to speak words without actually speaking them. You talk ever so quietly to yourself, subvocaly, then this system analizes the impulses sent to your throat and tounge. From that it knows what is being said. Very similar to Ender in Ender’s Game. I could see this as a new cell phone technology - that way you can talk without annoying everyone around you.
In part two of the news today a company called Vocera has created trek-style comminicators. *drool*
